The first unit in Course 3 presents various methods of executing a spin or turn and focuses on executing these movements in multiple positions to develop a unique pattern of dancing in each student.
Class 1: Swoops, Scoops, and Swirls
This class presents basic forms of over the head movements, and methods to set up for and alter these movements, building to the dramatic Swirl and Scoop moves Country Swing adopted from Latin style dancing.
Class 2: Free Spins
This class covers various methods of setting up and executing free spins for both partners from multiple positions.
Class 3: Oscillations
This class expands upon Spins by creating oscillatory movements in various positions, and the proper way to connect to your partner, modify your weight and momentum for effective acceleration, and communicate intent for these dizzying moves.
Class 4: Turnstile
This class works on the patterns of combining spins and turns into complex combinations combined with Class 2B4: Side and Cross chains.
This unit examines the mechanics of dipping and multiple methods of dip variations. Like Unit A, this unit has a strong focus on executing the moves presented in various positions, but adds the element of variation or styling to them to begin developing a stylistic approach to a student's dancing.
Class 1: Tilts
This class is designed to help partners begin trusting each other and develop special communication techniques required for safe dipping in future classes through a group of movements called Tilts or Semi-Dips.
Class 2: Dipping Mechanics
This class is a discussion and simple lab experience on the mechanics of dipping and how to perform a basic dip safely and effectively. It then progresses to methods of stylizing the basic dip and a simple exercise on the concept of Opportunity.
Class 3: Tether Dips
This class focuses on performing a variation of dips, known as Tether Dips, or Suicide Dips, in various positions. Students will also be able to further practice stylization and opportunity techniques they learned in the previous class.
Class 4: Special Dips
This class presents even more methods of performing dips including Spiral, Counter-Balance, Slip-Through, Step-Over, and Sled variations.
This unit focuses solely on the closed positions and how communication between partners is different in these positions. It also investigates a simple level of speed control.
Class 1: Slow Dance Basics
This class covers the common closed position, basic foot work, and methods of entering and exiting closed position.
Class 2: Alternate Slow Dance Footwork
This class presents footwork for 2 count and progressive steps in closed position.
Class 3: Slow Dance Variations
This class introduces both the reverse turn and shadow dance variations of slow dancing in country swing.
Class 4: Slow Dance Action Elements
This class presents covers various tilts, lunges, dips, and flairs commonly added to slow dance.
This unit breaks the classic movement form of orbit in country swing for the linear movement form of promenade, building students ability to communicate intent of their momenutum and movement patterns.
Class 1: Promenade and Orbit
This class gives students their first full lesson in the form of motion known as promenade, and compares the linear motion of promenade to the circular motion of orbit.
Class 2: Promenade Switchbacks
This class practices performing switchbacks along with promenade in various positions.
Class 3: Cross Hold Promenade
This class practices transitions into cross hold while simultaneously changing from orbit to promenade. Additionally, various cross hold circuit transitions and switchbacks will be practiced in promenade.
Class 4: Direct Circuit Promenade
This class practices completing the main direct circuit transitions while in promenade.
